It will come as no surprise to you that technology is the future. The Fourth Industrial Revolution – signifying the recent and exponential boom in tech start-ups, gadgets and artificial intelligence – has opened up a wealth of jobs that will soon take over the future of employment, with increasing emphasis to be placed on skills like coding, data analysis and design.


The design economy itself, ranging from game and web design to aerospace and architecture, is estimated to be worth around £85 billion to the UK as of 2016. Incredibly, the digital economy is growing at a faster rate than the entire UK economy.


There is no denying whatsoever that technology is the future of the job market. Below I have accumulated a list of the most important and lucrative jobs predicted for 2019 onward, with an explanation as to why they are soon to be so highly valued.


With all this talk of technology and the upcoming digital age, it would be easy to assume that jobs for non-STEM students will be restricted. Yet it is not all doom and gloom for those studying humanities subjects – humans still very much have the edge over machines when it comes to highly unpredictable sectors such as law, customer relationship management, healthcare, and truly creative job environments such as art and music.


Distinctly human qualities such as creativity, critical thinking, complex problem-solving and negotiation may increase in value due to their inability to be automated and simulated by algorithms or coding.
