Sia's Career Blog

Sia Jain

Coming into university as a fresh undergrad, I was very new to the world of finance. I attended career fairs, went to networking sessions, CV clinics and society events where I learnt about the famous spring weeks. It was daunting but it piqued my interest so I registered to attend a company presentation led by Bank of America’s GCIB Credit and Risk team. Meeting the analysts allowed me to gain better insights into the work they do and the firm’s culture - this was a strong boost to their spring week application. The process started off with a CV submission, followed by a few questions regarding the bank + division and lastly an online recorded interview (HireVue). I was glad to be accepted to their programme taking place in April.

I thoroughly enjoyed the experience - I had the opportunity to interact with 120+ students across UK and Europe in BofA’s London office over the course of 1 week in April. The highlights include amazing networking sessions with employees each day, trading and risk simulations, an M&A case study, meetings with my assigned mentor, and skill workshops. We learnt about the Bank’s culture, goals and missions. I also attended spotlight sessions on the divisions I was interested in (Credit and Risk) where I spoke to analysts, VPs, Directors and participated in case studies. At the end of the week, I got the opportunity to interview for their Summer internship programme for 2024. After a long 3-fold technical, competency and case study interview, I was elated to receive an offer.

Overall, it was a great networking and learning opportunity, with an added benefit of being able to convert to a summer internship. I would recommend it to anyone interested in gaining more insights into the industry.
